The Raiders and Bulldogs hooked up for a good old-fashioned good one last Friday at Shenandoah. After spotting Lapel an 8-0 first quarter lead, the Raiders got 2 touchdowns from senior Blake Surface to take a 13-8 lead after one quarter. Surface’s tds came on a short run and a beautifully executed 20 yard pass play from fellow senior Tanner Goff which saw Surface make a sliding/diving catch in the end zone for the score. Landen Reddick added the PAT after the second td.
Lapel took control of the game in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Raiders 16-0. But the Raiders came out fired up in the third quarter and turned the tables on the BUlldogs, outscoring them 12-6. It was the Surface and Goff duo scoring the TDs for the Raiders. Both came on short runs and both were followed by unsuccessful PAT attempts.
Lapel got control back with a 4th quarter td that put the Raiders down 36-25 with 8:27 left in the game but Shenandoah once again answered the bell. Goff took the Raiders down the field and again and scored a rushing td to close the gap to the final of 36-31….. but that wasn’t all she wrote.
The Raiders stopped the Bulldogs on downs on the following possession and Goff immediately raced to the Raider 7 yard line on our first play from scrimmage. The Raiders had 4 unsuccessful cracks at the win in the final minute and Lapel came away with the win.
