The following is a summary of the safety plan approved by the Henry County Board of Health for fans who will be attending sporting events at SHS this fall. There is nothing in this plan that is negotiable. Failure to follow this plan can lead to an individual’s removal from an event or in a worse case scenario having events without spectators:

 

 

Shenandoah High School Return To Play Protocol: Indoor and Outdoor Facilities

 

Section 1: Outdoor Facilities: Dale Green Field (site for varsity, jv, junior high, and youth football)

 

All spectators, workers, and media members will be required to wear face coverings. Essential personnel only will be allowed access inside the fenced area surrounding the football field.

 

Tickets/Entry Procedures

  1. The main ticket entrance will be utilized for all home contests. There will be an additional entrance for visitors.
  2. All ticket workers will wear mask and gloves at all times.
  3. The asphalt/concrete area will be marked so that spectators can maintain social distancing.
  4. Season passes will not be sold. This will allow us to keep crowd size at appropriate levels.
  5. For varsity football only, SHS will send pre-sale tickets to the visiting team of the appropriate quantity.

 

Concessions/Restrooms

  1. All concession workers will wear gloves and masks.
  2. There will be a separate concession area for varsity football games only for both the home and the visiting crowd.
  3. Concession workers handling money will not handle food at any time.
  4. All food will be pre-packaged: this will include hot dogs wrapped in foil, pre-packaged nacho chips and pretzels/sealed cheese cups, popcorn that is boxed with a closed lid, and condiments in individual serving packets.
  5. Separate restroom facilities are available for both home and visitors. Hand sanitizing stations will be available near concessions and restrooms.

Seating Capacity/Facilities

  1. For varsity, jv, and junior high football games crowds will be separated by home and visitor sides. Normal seating capacity is 1400 fans on the home bleacher side and 140 on the visitors’ side for a total of 1540.  Attendance on the home side will be limited to 350 seated 6 feet apart (unless part of a family “pod”) plus an additional 40 standing room spaces along the fence. Attendance on the visitor’s side will be limited to 90- spaced 6 feet apart- in the bleachers (1 large and 2 small sets) with an additional 40 standing room spaces along the fence for a total of 130.

Henry County Sheriff’s Deputies (SRO) will assist with helping keep social distancing during all levels of football at SHS with the exception of Youth League.

Total attendance at varsity football will be limited to a total of 520 paid admissions.

 

  1. For Youth League football games the crowd will use the home bleachers only as crowds rarely exceed 250 at any given time.

 

Locker Room Facilities/Press Box

  1. Home Team Locker Room: Shenandoah’s home locker area can normally accommodate up to 60 players. This year’s squad has 38. Each player assigned to a locker has one locker between he and the next player. Players nonetheless will dress in shifts to maintain 50% capacity.
  2. Visiting Team Locker Room: Visiting teams will also be asked to maintain 50% capacity at any one time. The visitors locker room can safely accommodate 20 players at a time with proper distancing.
  3. The officials have a separate locker room, restroom, and shower that can accommodate a 5 man crew.
  4. The press box will only house a scorer, 2 timers, and an announcer unless a radio station requests permission to broadcast our games. A maximum of 2 can be accommodated. The roof of our press box will be limited to a total of 6 people (2 coaches from each team and 2 video people).

 

 

Section 2: Indoor Facilities for Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball

 

  1. Seating capacity for Von Jamison Gym is 2500. Approximately 1500 seats are on the home side and 1000 on the visitors side.
  2. Shenandoah will limit ticket sales to 500 tickets per event. There will be separate entrances/ticket sales for home and visiting fans.
  3. All spectators will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Shenandoah SRO will help maintain social distancing and use of masks.
  4. Coaches, managers and players not engaged in physical activities will be required to wear face coverings at all times.
  5. Separate restrooms facilities are available for home and visitors. Hand sanitizing stations will be located throughout the entryway and gymnasium.

 

Section 3: Indoor Facilities for Junior High Volleyball (Shenandoah Middle School Gymnasium)

  1. Gym capacity is 500. All seats are on the same side of the gymnasium.
  2. Ticket sales will be capped at 250.
  3. All spectators will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. Shenandoah SRO will help maintain social distancing and use of masks.
  4. Coaches, managers and players not engaged in physical activities will be required to wear face coverings at all times.
