The Shenandoah Lady Raiders captured the 2020 IHSAA Sectional at Northeastern on Saturday with a 55-48 win over the host Knights in overtime. The championship is the girl’s first for head coach Dameon Wyatt and the 14th overall for the Lady Raiders. The last sectional championship came in 2015.
The 23-2 Raiders were led by the dynamic junior duo of Erikka Hill and Kat Perry. Hill scored 29 and Perry 21 to lead SHS in scoring. The Raiders also got help from juniors Rachel Soden and Jenna Stewart as well as key contributions from seniors Stormie Fitch and Rylee Johnson.
The Raiders got off to a great start as Northeastern started out cold from the field. The Raiders led 13-2 after a quarter and 24-7 at halftime. The lead was 13 points after 3 quarters but that is when the Knights got hot. Northeastern stormed back in the 4th, tying the game late and forcing overtime….where the Raiders regained their composure and outscored the Knights by 7.
The Raiders will now travel to Southmont High School for Regional play on Saturday. They will be taking on South Putnum (18-6) in the 10 AM game. The second game will feature undefeated and top ranked Triton Central (24-0) taking on Covenant Cristian (17-8). The winners will play at 8 PM.
