The Shenandoah football squad opened their season at home on Friday night with an encouraging 28-18 loss to third ranked class 2A Scecina. The Crusaders opened the scoring with a short TD run before the Raiders drove the length of the field and scored on a TD pass from Tanner Goff to Blake Surface to close the gap to 7-6. Scecina then proceeded to score 3 unanswered TDs before the Raiders came to life late. Goff hit junior receiver Andrew Bennett for a score in the 4th quarter to close the gap to 28-12. The defense then forced a Crusader fumble on the next play from scrimmage and the Raiders quickly capitalized. Goff hit Bennett again to get the Raiders close and finished the deal with a short TD pass to Josh Farmer. That became the final score of 28-18 as Scecina then ran out the clock.
The Raiders now begin a 4 week road trip beginning with a Friday night date with Heritage Christian.
