Our #10 top story of the year involves Shenandoah senior/graduate Landen Freestone’s record breaking performance in baseball this season. Landen broke the school’s batting average record set by Todd Shaw in 1987. Shaw’s record average of .481 had held up an amazing 32 seasons! Landen batted an even .500 this season as he collected 34 hits in 68 at bats. Despite playing most of the season with a tender hamstring, Freestone included 8 doubles, a triple, and 1 home run among his 34 hits. Landen collected 21 RBI, scored 16 runs, and had an on base percentage of .583 when you count in his 11 walks and 4 HBPs.
Landen will be taking his sweet swing to Vincennes University in the fall.
