The Shenandoah Raiders junior varsity boys basketball team fell to the Eastern Hancock Royals in a thrilling 41-39 game on Saturday, January 21.

Eastern Hancock jumped out to a 5-2 lead with Shenandoah scoring five unanswered to take a 7-5 edge after the first quarter. Gavin Patrick, Colton Monday and Evan Coers scored for the Raiders in the opening seven minutes.

The Royals began the second on an 10-3 run and led 15-10 with 3:59 remaining In the first half. Patrick and Nate Kimball connected on field goals as the Raiders pulled within a point at half 15-14.

Eastern Hancock scored the initial four points of the third and led 19-14. A Daniel Chapman shot from three point range pulled Shenandoah within two but then the Royals went on 8-5 run to end the quarter and led 27-22.

The teams traded buckets in the fourth and with 4:42 remaining the Royals were ahead 33-29. Eastern Hancock held the lead at 38-32 with 0:51 remaining. Four consecutive points by Coers closed the gap for Shenandoah to 38-36. The Raiders then took the lead at 39-38 when Jackson Campbell connected on a three. On the final possession as time expired the Royals sank a three and won 41-39.

Coers led the Raiders with 13 points. Other to score included Patrick (12), Campbell (6), Monday (3), Chapman (3) and Nate Kimball (2).
