Game Recap

The Raiders came out slow, although they were getting open looks, and trailed 2-8 early in the first quarter. Hillery Shepherd made two nice assists to Chandler and Coers respectively, while Candy and Rachel went on a 6-0 Raider run to tie it up at 13-13 after one. The second quarter allowed Centerville to extend a lead due to poor defensive rotation, lack of helpside, and getting beat off the dribble. The Raiders also went cold from the arc, so they dug themselves into a pretty deep hole. Regrouping at halftime, the Raiders came storming out in the third. Lead by Shepherd, who had several assists, rebounds, a steal, and a nice half-hook in the lane, the Raiders turned up the defensive intensity. Elexus Thomas had a nice steal to help stifle a scoring attempt, and the girls held Centerville to 2 points. The excitement continued in the fourth as the Raiders exchanged baskets for nearly four minutes. Alex Canaday hits a “3” to give the Raiders the lead 33-30. After a Chandler assist to Coers, a Coers steal, and a Coers assist to Shepherd, the Raiders lead 37-36 with 2:00 to go. The Raiders turned the ball over 4 times in the remaining two minutes of the game, but still had several opportunities to win the game. Sometimes records don’t matter, because your opponent wants to win just as badly. Do you define the moment? Another Bulldog battle on Thursday. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the amount of fight in the dog. What are your goals? Does your sentence start with “I” or “the team”?
